Was told on 12/14/2022 nothing could be done to remove the hold, and I just need to wait another 6 days before I can have my money. I'm wondering what would happen if I tell the credit union to cancel that check, and give me a new one to take to a bank that is more...
I was hesitant at first, yet went ahead and made the deposit.
The next morning I was notified via email that the entire check was now being held, and the date had been extended past the original date provided (the original date was 12/19/2022). The new date was given for 12/21/2022, with the only explanation being "a possible indicator on the check that may result in it being returned". WHAT?!? I understand the risk involved in personal and/or third party checks, however, a cashier's check within the same state should be easy to verify.
On 12/13/2022 I contacted customer service at Bank of America and was told by the representative that I should have access to the $5,525 the following business day, while the rest would be on hold until the 12/21/2022 updated date.
Well, another day went by and no money. Not even the $225 people are supposed to be able to access off of personal checks by this time, let alone a certified one from the bank. When I contacted customer service again to ask for the check back, I was told I have no legal ability to request it be returned, and that there was nothing I could do to speed up the hold, nor would they release the check back. WAIT, WHAT?!?
If the risk management team decided to take a valid cashier's check deposit, reverse it, extend the hold date out, and then remove any ability to access a dollar until they are finished "verifying funds", then why can't this department hand back over my check so I can take it to another bank that's able to process things correctly? A certified check takes a week and a half within Bank of America's Risk Management Division just to verify...? This is 2022, right?
I understand the banks policy states they have the ability to hold funds longer, however, for CASHIERS CHECKS that ability is much more limited. An option should exist allowing customers to speak with this department directly.
Why shield these people from contacting? Their own staff says they have no ability to contact them. Are you kidding me? At least provide the customer with the option to take the check back and go another route then.
There is no fraud here. NONE. Any validation needed should be done by the 2nd business day at the latest, not 9.
I want a justifiable, sensible, and honest reason as to why this deposit is still being held 4 days later. Explain yourselves to me instead of hiding from me.
This is my money. I have the legal right to know the answers to these questions without having to randomly guess. Why is it customer service cant even contact them?
These "verifications" would only produce positive benefits as well as speed things up if a direct form of communication was made available.
I am starting to believe others theory which is this bank takes larger deposits (especially those with easily verifiable funds), puts holds on those deposits and uses those funds in short term high yield investments for themselves. If this is the case, then I would like to request my profit/cut since it's my money they are using for personal gains while I can't afford to pay my bills.

They still owe me $17.00 from a year ago.

I had a lousy $67 in my savings account. You ppl take $5 a mo as a fee. My social security check is a whoopinig $839 a mo & youre going to rob me of $5 a month after Ive been with your bank for 40 years???
I dont think so. Thats it for me with you *** Whats more Im calling Charlotte, NC tomorrow to let them know about the *** bank in Little Rock whom you cant even talk to a person about whats going on!!!

My name is Andrea Sealey and Id like to share my experience with Bank of America. I met a man named Alan Jope on indeed and I did social media work for his company in California and I called Bank of America to inform them due to all the scams going on and I was told by 7 representatives that the safest way to get paid was to deposit his check and if its fraudulent it would not go through and no charges so I did.
On November 1st I deposited and was cleared November 2nd and I called Bank of America once again and I was told I was free to use and I was so relieved. On November 8th I went to pull out my rent from my job managing GNC and it declined and looked at my mobile app and I was in a negative 175.00 so naturally panicked and I was treated like a common criminal and I begged as a single mom to help me due to being told my check cleared by several representatives and upper management (all on recorded line) they declined me and left my daughter and myself nothing to live on. They said the check was fraudulent and I explained I was told this was the best way by your staff is to deposit because they would not clear a fake check and I was dismissed like trash. I was hacked for 400 in gift cards Id never buy and they didnt care at all.
I disputed the card transactions and took the cash so my child and I can eat. Every bank I spoke to said they were in the wrong because fraudulent checks wont be cleared unless the funds are available.
I am seeking legal representation to fight my rights for my rights and their wrong doings. Beware of Bank of America they are unprofessional and lied to clients and Ill never do business again
