Verified ReviewerRefused To Refund Zelle Fraud
Bank of America failed to respond to me in a timely manner, and then the bank used this exact excuse as to why they denied my fraud claim. Apparently, Bank of America supports those who commit fraud by failing to take the proper actions for their customers.
They protect the thief by not doing anything! I lost $2,000 due to this fraud! This is the exact reason why there is so much theft; no one holds them accountable, and they all know they will get away with it!
As of Nov 2025 B of A supports Zelle Fraud because they refuse to refund the fraud. People pay through Zelle all the time for services and goods, this does not make them stupid, it makes all human.
Pretty sure whom ever made the comment about being stupid has paid cash for items, Zelle is just a modern form of cash. This was reported as a fraud transaction, since the service was not rendered.

Verified ReviewerThey did not protect me as a consumer of their company
I would have looked into hiring and attorney to see what could have been done to get this resolved .
They returned the $500 check but then cashed the $1000 check. Everything was fine for about five or six weeks until I went back into the banking app. It was locked and said to call this number. They withheld the funds for four days before releasing them into my account.
When I called the banking number as requested, they basically told me that they had closed my account because the check was not valid, and they reported me to check systems. My question is, why do they hold the funds for four days? Isn't it their job to do due diligence to protect me as a consumer to find out whether or not this check is valid and if the funds are available? Also, how did they not know that it was not a valid account?
It was drawn on the same bank that I was banking with, and it was their institution. Since then, this has prevented me from getting a normal bank account and having to use Internet banking, which costs twice as much and has also cost me several times from being able to get small loans or anything of that nature. Any suggestions for me to get this issue worked out? It's very frustrating.
I will apply to banks that don't use check systems on the Internet, say I'll get accepted for the account, and then within a week, my account will be closed. I don't think that's fair.
- No pros at all
- Will lie to you and not protect you as a consumer of their institution
Preferred solution: I would like Bank of America to take me off the check systems and allow me to get a normal bank account again.
User's recommendation: I would recommend no one opening an account with this institution. All they wanna do is take your money and lie to you and not do anything to protect you as a consumer.

Verified ReviewerCustomer support
90% of my interactions with Bank of America are terrible. They have worked hard to improve security that it now treats customers like criminals.
When I used to have a fraud issue, they would quickly review and respond. Now, they seem to automatically deny based on a different algorithm, such as it couldn't possibly be fraud because you shop there. They seem to have adopted the insurance mindset of deny, deny, deny until someone fights back. Telephone support is filled with children who have no problem-solving skills, and when you ask to speak to a manager, they refuse.
I live somewhat remotely, and I had so many problems with fraud on my account that they made me go into a branch office to get my card reactivated. (I bought tickets to Scotland). By the way, that purchase failed, so I used my American Express card, which has amazing customer service still. When I went into the bank, they now have a habit of sitting in their offices chatting about social things and make you wait until they call you in.
Customer care has gone out the window. To someone who has been taught solid skills in how to problem-solve and having the ability to make unhappy customers reasonable and then happy, this is mind-numbingly agitating. But I kept my mouth shut, smiled, and didn’t complain. The woman who helped me was sufficient.
Then she asked me how the service was. I told her that I have only had one good customer support experience at BofA over the +10 years I have been with them. She asked if it was phone support, and when I said yes, admitted that they hated to work with telephone support as well and the bank is expected to get rid of her position soon. I was not only visiting BofA to reactivate my card but to withdraw money to walk across the street and open an account with the local credit union so I could secretly transfer my account.
I did not disclose this because banks have a mindset nowadays that they need to manage your money for you. The manager, who was a young sneering woman, watched me the whole time with the first banker all the way to the counter to withdraw some money to open my other account.
I will never bank with BofA again, even if they fix their terrible culture. My credit union has been great, quick, and helpful so far, so crossing my fingers this persists.

After a back and forth between Customer Service, Fraud, and Accounts, I was redirected back to Customer Service. Fortunately, I was connected to a Cheryl (who said she was familiar with the Pacific Northwest).
She was very persistent, polite, and helpful in trying to help. All, I can say is that she is a keeper.

I called Bank of America regarding an issue and was initially on hold for about 20 minutes before speaking with an agent. Once connected, I spent approximately 30 minutes discussing the problem and working toward a resolution.
However, during the call, the agent unexpectedly placed me back on hold.
Shortly after that, the call was interrupted and disconnected. Unfortunately, my issue was not resolved, and I was unable to reconnect with the same agent.
Horrible customer service
I have been dealing with identity theft happening to me and when I talked to the customer service manager t the bank on poplar Chyna she was very nice. The customers service people said "identity theft" was my fault then began to ridicule of my life. I would never recommend this bank.

Verified ReviewerAcknowledged lack of customer support for mobile app
For several months, the Bank of America app on my iPhone has shown a small red circle in the upper right-hand corner. The red circle has the number '3' inside it. On any other app with a red circle with a number in that location, it means that there is a message or notification waiting for me. For months, I have tried to see if Bank of America has a message for me. There are none.
I have called Bank of America support. The people I speak with are poorly trained. They do not listen. When I report this, they confirm what I have already told them: There are no messages waiting for me. Today, I decided to push this to resolution. I called, was put on hold for 20 minutes. Their recording — AS ALWAYS — said that they are receiving more calls than usual. That, of course, is a lie. A company cannot constantly be receiving more calls than usual all the time. It is a lie because the FACT is that they are understaffed for the typical number of calls they receive, and Bank of America's customers are subject to long wait times because Bank of America is understaffed. Apparently, this bank prefers to lie rather than tell the truth.
On my first call, after waiting 20 minutes, I reported the problem succinctly as I did above. There is a red circle showing three pending messages or alerts, but there are no pending messages or alerts. The person I spoke with told me that she could see no pending alerts — repeating what I had already told her. I asked her why the icon to open the iPhone app showed three pending messages. Her response was to repeat that there were no pending messages. Repeating that did nothing to answer my question.
The question is important because it is important to know when a message or alert is waiting to be read. The false number in the red circle (3) has been showing for many months. So, I have wasted my time logging in to make sure whether there is a new message. That, of course, is a waste of my time. It is like the story of the little boy who cried 'wolf.' Eventually, people start to realize that the boy cannot be trusted.
When the person who kept repeating what I had already told her was clearly not going to provide assistance, I politely asked her to escalate the call to a supervisor. She agreed to do so, and I was immediately disconnected. So much for customer service.
I called back. I explained what had happened, and I requested escalation to a supervisor. I was promptly connected to a supervisor who identified herself as Jasmine in South Carolina (employee ID 9W6TC). Jasmine was equally unhelpful.
I explained the situation. I asked her specifically what the little red circle with the number 3 in the upper right-hand corner of the Bank of America app icon was supposed to mean. Jasmine did not know.
Bank of America has about 212,000 employees, and apparently, there is no one I can speak to for the purpose of reporting that their app — a tool they provide to (supposedly) support their customers and save them money in the process — is broken.
There is no one whom a customer can speak with to confirm that the little red circle is supposed to identify unread messages or alerts. There is no one to provide this level of technical support to Bank of America customers. So, I am posting this here, and I am sending a copy to Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan. Perhaps someone at that company gives a damn and will make sure that customer support deficiencies are addressed.
However, she was quick to say that I had no pending messages or alerts. I agreed with her. She actually repeated that multiple times during the call. I asked her to stop repeating what we had both agreed to be true.
She asked whether I had uninstalled and reinstalled the app. I confirmed that I had, in fact, wasted my time doing so. I told her that it did not fix the problem. Then I asked Jasmine to please transfer me to someone who could tell me what the little red circle was supposed to mean. Jasmine said that there was no one to whom she could transfer me to answer that question. Really?
The phone app is supposed to provide customer service and, in the process, save Bank of America money through automation. In fact, it is dysfunctional, it wastes customers' time, and Bank of America does not provide decent support for customers who encounter problems with the app that saves shareholders money.
This app provides customer 'service' in the same sense that a bull provides a cow with 'service.' If Bank of America gave a damn about providing true customer service, when a problem arises with their app, they would have staff to whom a customer could speak.
According to Jasmine, such people do not exist. So, my advice to potential new Bank of America customers is to find another bank — one that has people available who are eager to learn of inevitable technology problems and equally eager to fix them.
Bank of America does not provide such people.

Verified Reviewer |This bank closed my account after 18 years of service for an accident that happened
I have been with Bank of America for 18 years and never encountered any problems. Recently, I was offered a job online, but I fell for a scam. I was looking for a job cleaning houses when a man contacted me. He stated that he would be away for three weeks and needed someone to look after his animals and clean his house. Eagerly, I accepted. He didn't ask for any ID information and said he would send me a partial check to buy supplies. At the end of it all, I would receive my final payment.
I took the check to the bank, only to be told that it wasn't valid. When I contacted the man, he refuted the claim and ended up sending me another check. It looked very real, so I took it to Bank of America.
The bank representative didn't explain anything to me. She merely informed me that it was fraudulent, closed my account, and barred me from their banking system for five years. She didn't even summon the manager to explain to me the situation -- this is the first time something like this has occurred. I wouldn't wish this experience on my worst enemy. After 18 years of loyal service, they treated me like waste.
Being a disabled person, this incident deeply affected me. The right thing to do would have been to involve the manager. They could have shown me or at least warned me about this. Instead, they simply discarded me from their system, treating me as trash. As a nurse, this was profoundly embarrassing. It could be degrading for anyone who provides services to a bank that seems to not care about them.
